What started as an aspiring move to own a Chinese restaurant back in 1986 by our father, Hao Q, has now became a small group of restaurants owned and run independently by three brothers at three different locations. We settled in Austin in the late 1970’s to new opportunities. The very first skill set we acquired all came from our exposure to the Chinese restaurant industry. From washing dishes, to cutting and preparing meats and vegetables, to learning to prep cooking on the line, to frying stations, and eventually, the wok cooking position. We all did what we had to do to master the entire Chinese kitchen operation. Armed with what we’ve learned, our father set out with a goal to build a stable business (Hao-Hao Restaurant) for each one of his kids. First in Dobie Mall, near UT, then to South Austin on William Cannon & Manchaca, then on to Round Rock.
In July 2011, the Dobie Mall location finally had its run. It was sold to make way for investment in this location on Far West. We, Young & Hong Q. would like to serve this Northwest Hills neighborhood with what we believe to be true and honest to goodness wholesome Asian style cooking with value added service to our guests; and hopefully make a few pennies in the process. We hope you all enjoy dining here as much as we will enjoy serving you for years to come.
Update: Round Rock location has been sold to another operator outside of the Quach family since 2015. Since divested of the restaurant in Round Rock, brother Y and his wife, Nguyet, started a small Vietnamese style sandwich shop called NG Cafe. http://ngcafeatx.com/find-us They serve up some of the best in-house baked bread Banh-Mi you can find this part of the world. They also bake homemade asian style sweets, cookies, dessert coconut cream silk tofu cups, and the classic ginger syrup silk tofu cups as well. Please give them a try!
